Chevrolet Malibu immediately whipped up a little better next year, but could not fix the itty-bitty back car seat or base-meh-ness. Now, just three years later, the all-new Malibu again, and this time, it sports a fresh look, the basics are fresh, and fresh engines.

The interior is fresh and interesting, and very spacious, especially at the rear, which is lacking in the old car. It's not just the opinion of a small group of automotive journalists, either: if you look at KBB Consumer Reviews for the Chevy Malibu, you'll find comments like "The '13 Malibu also not very comfortable and leg room for rear seat minimal" or "My sticking point main with this car is the interior space, especially rear seat, "and" ... anyone over 5'7 "would have a hard time being comfortable in the back seat of the car.

"Now, there is plenty of room to stretch out, whether you're in the front or back seat. Features such as MyLink with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, navigation, charging the wireless phone and the ability to make your car wi fi hotspot welcome a selection of high technology.

All 2016 Chevrolet Malibu models are front-wheel drive. L, LS and 1LT trim level comes standard with a six-speed automatic transmission and 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder rated at 160 hp and 184 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy EPA-rated at 31 mpg combined (27 city / 37 highway), boosted slightly by the stop-start system that automatically shuts down the engine when the car comes to a stop.

Standard on 2LT and Premier trims an eight-speed automatic and a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that cranks out 250 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. That's less than the output of this machine is made in Malibu before, but the new eight-speed transmission makes the most of it and also contribute to improved fuel economy estimates of 26 mpg combined (22 city / 33 highway).
