2015 GMC Sierra 1500 review full-size pickup offered in numerous cab with decent rating in crash-test safety

The recently overhauled 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 gives among the better hauling and towing numbers of any light-duty full-size truck while returning better fuel economy and performance. And it carries lots of ports and connections to twist almost any kind of Sierra into a mobile workplace.

The 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 is a full-size pickup on the market in various cab/cargo-bed settings in both two- and four-wheel drive. Body layouts include typical cab, extended (double) cab and crew cab. Typical cabs are offered with either a 6.5-foot standard bed or an 8-foot bed. Extended cabs contain the 6.5-foot standard bed, while crew cabs come with either a 5.75-foot short bed or the 6.5-foot standard bed.

The 2015 GMC Sierra provides three engines: a 4.3-liter V6 that produces 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft, a 5.3-liter V8 which makes 355 hp and 383 lb-ft, and a 6.2-liter V8 which will make 420 hp and 460 lb-ft. All Sierra models carry a regular 6-speed automatic, though GM has hinted that an 8-speed may launch midyear for V8 powerplants.

Based on the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Sierra 1500 gained an excellent rating in crash-test safety, along with a superb rating in the oh-so-difficult moderate front overlap crash examination. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration evaluated the Sierra 1500 with a 5-star in general rating, which include a 5-star rating for frontal and side crashes. Rollover crashes were rated at a 4 stars.
