Before setting up road trip in the winter, you need to get a clue about the state of the weather and road conditions in your area. Monitor the weather before you leave and take note of areas prone to snow storms, rain, hail or high.
Chain
If you rent a car, you need to provide a chain while traveling across the snow and ice. Most rental companies will provide the chain, and shows how to set it up properly.
- When using it, make sure the chain is attached right on the drive wheels (ie. For a front drive car, chain mounted on the front)
- The chain should be securely fastened but not tight
- After installing the chain correctly, run the short distance and double check to make sure the chain is secured
- Bring gloves warmers and make sure you have a flashlight
