Review Hyundai Tucson 2016 164-horsepower and extra space in the interior

Hyundai's 2016 Tucson had its world wide debut at the Geneva Motor Show at the beginning of March, but the New York Auto Show this week granted the first opportunity to get a look at the compact SUV in U.S. trim. Hyundai used the 2015 New York auto show as the place for the launching of its all-new Tucson. And not a standard five-passenger crossover, however, this 2016 version year Tucson is equipped with several surprising future-forward features.

The biggest visible change is basically in the nose of the SUV, which includes a new hexagonal grille, LED running lights and projector headlights. Even improving the looks — as well as the comfort — are the Tucson's new shapes: It's 30inches longer and also about an inch larger. The change provides about 5 cubic feet of excess room in the interior.

The base powertrain system is a 164-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, routing power by a six-speed automatic. The uprated setup is a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, delivered through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

With the new turbocharged engine also front-wheel drive, Hyundai predicts the 2016 Tucson to bring back 26/33 mpg city/highway, which is actually a 5 mpg improvement over the 2015 model’s 2.4-liter engine. 2016 units complete with the base engine and front-wheel drive are predictable to earn 23/31 mpg, that is a slight improvement over the 2015 base model’s 23/29 mpg EPA rating.
