Hyundai's 2016 Tucson had its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show at the beginning of March, however the New York Auto Show this week delivered the first opportunity to get a look at the compact SUV in U.S. trim. Hyundai used the 2015 New York auto show as the place for the arrival of its all-new Tucson. Rather than a normal five-passenger crossover, however, this 2016 kind year Tucson comes with various astonishing future-forward features.


The main visible change is in the nose of the SUV, which includes a new hexagonal grille, LED running lights and projector headlights. As well improving the looks — as well as the comfort — are the Tucson's new shapes: It's 30inches longer and even about an inch bigger. The change puts about 5 cubic feet of added room in the interior.

The base powertrain installation is a 164-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, routing power in a six-speed automatic. The uprated setup is a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, dispatched through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

With the new turbocharged engine also front-wheel drive, Hyundai is expecting the 2016 Tucson to bring back 26/33 mpg city/highway, which is a 5 mpg advancement over the 2015 model’s 2.4-liter engine. 2016 variants loaded with the base engine and front-wheel drive are projected to earn 23/31 mpg, which is a slight improvement over the 2015 base model’s 23/29 mpg EPA rating.
