Singer David Bowie Dies of Cancer, Aged 69 to be honored at Carnegie Hall


David Bowie, singer renowned innovative and iconic career lasted five decades, has died after a battle with cancer. He was 69. Representative Steve Martin said Monday morning that Bowie died "peacefully" and surrounded by family. Shortly after learning that iconic musician has died after a long battle with cancer, Duncan Jones took to Twitter to confirm the news to those who might wish it was a lie. Post a sweet throwback black and white picture of himself with his father, Jones writes, "Very sorry and sad to say it's true. I will be offline for a while. Love to all."

David Bowie celebrated the 69th anniversary of his album release, "Blackstar" and have a show, "Lazarus," run Off Broadway. Now he is to be honored at Carnegie Hall with a concert featuring Roots, Cyndi Lauper and Mountain Goats. The concert, presented by Michael Dorf, which runs City Winery, will take place on March 31.

In 2004, the musician suffered chest pain while performing at a festival in Germany and fainted backstage. While Bowie was initially thought he pinched nerve in his shoulder, the pain was later diagnosed as a clogged coronary artery and required emergency heart surgery. Rumors of his health failed to survive after the incident and appearance seem to concern in 2012, when he was found in New York City looks like "a pale shadow of his former self," according to The Telegraph.



Bowie was born in Brixton, England in 1947 and his first hit song was "Space Oddity" in 1969. The song reached the top five of the UK Singles Chart. Bowie will go to reinvent itself throughout the years of his alter ego Ziggy Stardust for his album "Young Americans."
