The four-door IS, it's back, with all the style and panache associated with its rival German sports sedan, thanks to edgy good looks, improved performance, and unmatched reputation for reliability.
The most visible part of the design of the Lexus IS is "spindle grille" in front of the car. F Sport models get black mesh grille in the shape of a spindle, creating gaping, maw aggressive. Standard IS sedan get a little more normal appearance with a horizontal bar fills up two-thirds of the opening of the spindle. Side of the statue and a pointed tail lamps give a dynamic feel to the profile, while simple, the back of the net completed a new look at the record tight and neat.
Inside, go largely unchanged for this year, with the exception of the new color gray interior, and optional piano black trim. A tiered dashboard to add an upscale feel to the design, while the center stack controls are simple and neatly arranged. Steering enhanced form continues to look and feel, and the F Sport models, the digital instrument display LFA supercar inspired take on IS to the next level.
On comfort and quality front, the upgrade did much to improve the IS. Interior materials look and feel smooth and high quality; well-supported seat, especially in F Sport models, but still comfortable; rear seat offers more space thanks to a little revision in the size of the car; and while the luggage was still at the small end of the spectrum to the class at 13.8 cubic feet, it is large enough for most purposes.
Under the hood, you'll find the same engine as in the last generation IS. Which includes a 2.5-liter V-6 rated at 204 horsepower for the IS 250 models and 185 pound-feet of torque and a 3.5-liter V-6 rated at 306 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque to the IS 350 models. F Sport trim levels get extra power, but getting other performance upgrades. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive available. A standard six-speed automatic transmission. No manual transmission is offered, but the eight-speed automatic offered on rear-drive IS 350 models, including the F Sport. The new eight-speed is smooth and fast-shifting, improve performance and comfort everyday driving.
Gas mileage is good, not great. Rear-drive IS 250 score of 21 mpg city and 30 mpg highway for 24 mpg combined; adding all-wheel drive brings the number to 20 mpg city and 27 mpg highway for 23 mpg combined. In the IS 350, rear-drive models scored 19 mpg city and 28 mpg highway for 22 mpg combined; all-wheel drive models scored 19/21 mpg and 26 mpg combined.
Another upgrade from the last generation, including re-tuned suspension and rigid chassis to improve handling and dynamic ability. In practice, the result is a car that drives very much like the previous IS, but with just a little more precision. This is clearly an additional improvements to sport-sedan IS meat, rather than revolutionary upgrade. However, these changes are applied to all 2014 models last year. Precision steering and feel good for electric-boost system. Optional variable-ratio steering The IS 350 F Sport sharpens the response of the model car feels, but does not increase the feedback.
