The 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 is a full-size pickup made available in many cab/cargo-bed designs in both two- and four-wheel drive. Body designs include regular cab, extended (double) cab and crew cab. Normal cabs come available with either a 6.5-foot standard bed or an 8-foot bed. Extended cabs feature the 6.5-foot standard bed, while crew cabs come available with either a 5.75-foot short bed or the 6.5-foot standard bed.

All Sierra models feature a common 6-speed automatic, though GM has hinted that an 8-speed may possibly be released midyear for V8 powerplants.

As shown by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Sierra 1500 deserved a great rating in crash-test safety, which includes a Good rating in the oh-so-difficult moderate front overlap crash check. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration ranked the Sierra 1500 with a 5-star overall rating, together with a 5-star rating for frontal and side crashes. Rollover crashes were rated at a 4 stars.
