Toyota is The Automaker's Best-selling Worldwide Targeting Annual Sales of 10.2 million Vehicles

Toyota maintained its lead over Volkswagen and General Motors as the automaker's best-selling worldwide in the first nine months of the year, reporting a record 7.615 million vehicles sales on Monday, nearly 3 percent from the previous year. Volkswagen said this month that it had sold 7.4 million vehicles from January to September, just beating General Motors in sales. This month GM reported sales of 7.37 million cars and trucks worldwide. Toyota is targeting annual sales of 10.2 million vehicles this year, which would be a record for the automotive industry.

The Japanese automaker, which announced sales data Monday, has targeted to sell 10.2 million vehicles this year, after selling 9.98 million vehicles last year. If the company succeeds, it would create a record for sales of the auto industry, according to The Associated Press, or AP. Volkswagen, which aims to sell 10 million units by the end of the year, it had sold 7.4 million vehicles in September, while GM reported sales of 7.372 million vehicles worldwide.

Toyota, which makes the Camry sedan, Lexus luxury models and Prius hybrid, is doing well despite the difficulties in the Japanese home market, where an increase in the sales tax has dampened overall spending, especially automobile purchases. Toyota has publicly played for his place at the top and the competition is intense. The three automakers have come close on the heels of other, competing not only in developed markets such as the US and Europe, but also in the emerging markets of China and the rest of Asia.

Japanese automaker Toyota was the first place in the first half with sales of almost 5.1 million. He finished first last year with a record of 9.98 million sales. GM had finished second and third Volkswagen AG.
