Tips for buying a used car! Guide to buying used car

Buying a used car is a good type of cutting the price of your driving as the majority of new cars lose around 40% of their price in the first year. If you're like me, you bust out in hives whenever you think about used car dealers. The stereotypical, pushy salesmen come to mind. But with a little homework, and a perfect knowledge of the process, you could steer your way easily to driving off a used car lot with remarkable savings.

Used car dealers gain a profit in one of three possibilities: first, they make money on the front end by selling the vehicle in excess of they bought it for; second, they make money on the back end simply by selling you financing, warranties and also dealer add-ons such as maintenance packages; and third, when the dealer includes trade-in value, they could cause the difference by selling the car for a proper price above the cost.

Before you go to one of your nearest used car dealers, focus on the money available to spend. Understand what could suit your budget for both a down payment and a monthly amount of money you feel confident with investing in financing. Figure out any future payments that you should make apart from the monthly payment for the vehicle. Once you have learned your budget, stick with it. When you walk into the dealer with a firm number in mind, you will be better able to deal with the seller. Learn the numbers, and don't budge.

Word of mouth remains the better advertising. Talk to the people you know who have just (within the last year or two) brought a vehicle from a dealer. How was their experience? Will they go back?

Look up the business's social media reviews. A lot of people are very precise on the Internet. Even so, consider these reviews with a grain of salt. It is much more likely for someone to leave a lousy review compared to a positive one. Also, verify that a real user, rather than someone who works for the company, set up the good reviews.

  1. Great tips! I don't like 'pushy' dealers as I only want to make decision on my own. I seemed to get tempted with their words. :D I always get a vehicle history report from VINaudit http://www.vinaudit.com/ and give it to the dealer. Some dealerships offer reports for free from carfax but I don't want to rely on them so I get my own copies to make sure.
